How they Work Dental sealants are applied using what is called an acidic gel. The gel first roughs up the area of the tooth where the sealant will be applied. This helps it to stick to your teeth better. After that, the gel is rinsed, and the teeth are dried. Then the sealant is applied to the tooth and blue light is used to harden it. The sealant forms a barrier that prevents foods from getting stuck to and building upon the teeth, therefore, leaving no place for the bacteria to grow.
