3 Tips for Keeping Your Teeth Clean and Healthy While Traveling
Posted on 9/6/2021 by Dr. Nick Raptou
While you are traveling your oral hygiene routine is different. Your toothpaste is not in the same place, you may not have even packed floss, and you may be experiencing jet lag or find yourself very tired at the end of the night when you are supposed to brush and floss. We want to help you to keep your teeth clean and healthy while traveling. We have some tips to offer you to maintain good oral hygiene.
Dental Routines Can be Simplified
Our first tip is to consider bringing a disposable toothbrush. That way, if you are going to multiple destinations, you can throw your toothbrush away after each stop. The inside of your toiletry bag may not be the cleanest place and may be a breeding ground for bacteria if your toothbrush is wet when you pack it. Whenever possible, let your toothbrush out to dry completely in between uses to minimize bacteria growth.
Our second tip is eat well on your trip. Choose your sweet treats carefully. It can be tempting to sample the local treats without self-control but try to stick to one treat a day.
Our last tip is to make an appointment with our office before you go away on a long vacation. If you have an existing dental issue, you do not want to deal with that while you are supposed to be relaxing. Remember to leave enough time between your dental appointment and your departure date in case we need to work on your teeth before you go.
