Why All-on-4 Treatment Concept?
The All-on-4® Treatment Concept replaces all of your teeth in the upper or lower jaw on just four dental implants. Raptou Family Dental has the expertise to deliver this procedure to patients who have no teeth, or teeth so badly broken-down that removing them is the best option.
How Does All-on-4 Implants Work?
Four dental implants are placed at strategic points in the jawbone—two in the back of the mouth and two in the front. The rear implants are longer and positioned at a more acute angle than traditional implants, providing more bone-to-implant contact and greater stability. A fixed bridge is attached to the implants, which may be a lighter, temporary one if extractions have recently been carried out.
Sometimes referred to as teeth in a day, despite it being a complex surgical procedure, all of the component parts of the treatment take place during the surgical procedure. Thus, extraction of teeth, placement of implants, and attachment of an arch of teeth are all completed on the same day.
What Are the Benefits of All-on-4?
The All-on-4 is a permanent, fixed solution to missing teeth. Unlike dentures, they do not move or slip causing embarrassment or a sore mouth.
The tilting of the rear implants provides a stable platform quicker than traditional implants. Thus, patients with inadequate bone tissue may still be suitable for an All-on-4 without a bone graft.
Patients have a fixed, temporary bridge immediately after the treatment, unlike traditional implants where a crown is not fixed for several months after implant placement. You can enjoy the benefits of a new smile immediately, as well as reduced visits to the dentist.
How Long Does It Take to Get All on 4 Dental Implants?
While the actual All-on-4 procedure is carried out in one day, a great deal of planning is required for a successful outcome. A thorough medical history is taken and diagnostic tests. This includes 3D/CT scans which are used to aid diagnosis, as well as used as a template during surgery to pinpoint the most accurate positions for the implants. Impressions of your mouth are taken and forward to a laboratory where your new teeth are tailor-made.
An appointment for the day of your treatment is made when your new teeth will be available to be affixed to the implants. Finally, an appointment for your final restorations is made approximately three months after your surgery, if you have had a temporary bridge fitted after extractions.
Am I a Candidate to Get All-on-4?
There is no age limit to the All-on-4 treatment, but you will need to be in reasonably good health. If you have extensive bone loss, it doesn’t necessarily preclude you from an All-on-4, but you may have to have a bone graft procedure prior to your implant surgery so that you have enough viable bone available.
A major lifestyle choice that makes you unsuitable for dental implants is smoking. It restricts blood flow so essential nutrients and oxygen are not delivered to the body’s cells which are necessary to fight infection and repair tissues. This has a critical effect on implants and can lead to implant failure.
