Teeth VeneersYour teeth do a lot for you every day. While many of the jobs of your teeth are functional in nature (biting, chewing, speaking), they also have an aesthetic job as well. Your teeth provide you with a beautiful, confident smile that speaks volumes to those around you. When your teeth have imperfections, even small ones, the beauty of your smile is dulled, and your confidence may not be what you would like it to be. At Raptou Family Dental, we can help to restore the beauty of your smile with veneers. What Are Veneers?Veneers are thin, shell-like dental restorations that are made to cover the front portions of visible teeth. Set in place, they effectively cover over a myriad of minor dental imperfections. Veneers essentially transform your smile, restoring its beauty and giving you back the confidence you need to show it off once more. Why Veneers?Veneers are used to fix a multitude of minor imperfections in your teeth, including:
What Are Veneers Made From?Veneers are typically made from one of two materials—composite resin or porcelain. Both materials can be made in such a way that they blend in perfectly with the rest of your natural teeth. However, porcelain is the preferred material. This is because porcelain is stronger than composite resin. It also more closely mimics the properties of natural enamel, including the way that it reflects light. In doing so, it provides a much more natural fix. Veneer ProcedureVeneers typically require two visits to our office. During your first visit, we prepare your teeth. This process, done under a local anesthetic, involves removing just a small layer of the enamel from the surfaces of the affected teeth. In doing so, we create the space necessary so that the veneers sit flush with the rest of your teeth, providing a natural, comfortable appearance. After the teeth have been prepared, we then take impressions of your mouth. The impressions are sent to a lab, where your veneers are created. When they are ready, a process that can take up to two weeks, we check them for fit and bond them into place. An acid etch is used to roughen up the surfaces of your teeth before applying the bonding agent. This helps to create a more secure bond between the veneers and your teeth. Benefits of VeneersVeneers offer several benefits:
