Clear Invisalign® Aligners

Invisalign® Clear Aligners at Raptou Family Dental, Columbus, OH If crooked teeth are making you unhappy with your smile, you have probably thought about undergoing orthodontic treatment. The problem, however, is that you do not want to be stuck wearing metal on your teeth all day every day until the process is complete. The thought of it makes having crooked teeth seem more appealing. However, what if there was a way to get straighter teeth without everyone knowing that you are undergoing orthodontic treatment? At Raptou Family Dental, this is possible with clear Invisalign aligners.

What are Invisalign Aligners Made From?

Invisalign aligners are made from a clear material called SmartTrack. SmartTrack is a patented thermoplastic material that is designed specifically for this treatment. It is BPA-free, BPS-free, latex-free, and approved by the FDA.

How Does Invisalign Treatment Work?

If you are determined to be a good candidate for Invisalign, we then take digital impressions of your mouth that enable us to create a 3D model. We also take X-rays. Between your exam and your images, we can personalize a treatment plan just for you. The images are then sent to a lab, which creates your custom aligners.

When they are ready, you will be provided with a few sets at a time. Each set is meant to be worn for just 2 weeks at a time. They should also be worn no less than 20 hours a day for optimal results. The only times they should be removed is so that you can eat and so that you can take care of your teeth and clean your aligners. You will have regular orthodontic appointments approximately every 6 weeks so that we can monitor the progress of your teeth and determine if any adjustments need to be made to your treatment plan.

Is Invisalign Treatment Painful?

Invisalign is not painful at all. You may experience some minor discomfort when you switch to a new set of aligners. This is perfectly normal, and it will fade after a few days. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign is completely smooth. You do not have to worry about brackets irritating the tissues in your mouth. If you experience significant discomfort, contact the office to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

Are There Any Food Restrictions with Invisalign?

Unlike braces, Invisalign is removable. The aligners are meant to be taken out of your mouth every time you eat. Because of this, you do not have the same food restrictions that you do with traditional braces. Exercise caution with exceptionally hard foods such as hard candies or whole raw carrots. You should avoid eating anything while your aligners are on your teeth. It would help if you also took your aligners out to drink, especially when it comes to beverages such as coffee or red wine. As soon as you are done eating, you should brush your teeth and clean your aligners and then put them back in. If you are unable to brush your teeth and aligners, you should at the very least clean them under running water.

What Happens After My Treatment is Complete?

Once your Invisalign treatment is complete, you will receive a retainer. You may be given a removable retainer that should be worn as instructed. A permanent retainer may also be bonded to the back of your bottom teeth. The goal of the retainer is to help maintain your new smile by keeping your teeth in proper alignment.

Who Can Get Invisalign?

Invisalign is a great option for teens and adults. It is typically recommended for teens over the age of 13. Younger patients are not ideal candidates because their jaws are continually changing. Invisalign can treat many types of orthodontic issues. However, you may not be a candidate if you have severe alignment issues. With a consultation, we can help to determine if it is the right treatment for you.

If you want straighter teeth but don’t want to be bothered with metal braces, clear Invisalign aligners may be the solution for you. Call Raptou Family Dental at (614) 427-0449 today to find out more.
